Meet our doctors

Dr. Gail Tanner

I am now in my 40th year of optometric practice in Petrolia, Ontario – Canada’s Victorian Oil Town. It has been a fantastic place to raise a family, build a business and to be involved in the community. As technology and the world around us changes, the examination by your family optometrist has also changed. Electronic medical records, desktop computers, digital retinal photography, electronic refracting equipment, and automated visual field testing were “Star Trek” fantasies when I graduated from Optometry school! The philosophy of optometry has not changed, however. Listening to our patients and recommending treatments or devices to obtain the best possible outcome for their eye health and vision correction is still what we do. Only the tools have changed. As a Doctor of Optometry, part of my commitment to my patients is ongoing professional education. Since graduating from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 1980, and upgrading to Therapeutic Management of Ocular Disease certification in 1996, I have continued to upgrade my knowledge and skills through continuing education courses and professional journal study. Optometry still fascinates me. After office hours:
